In this article, we will demonstrate two methods to install RSAT on Windows 11 PCs. The RSAT tools can be installed on Windows 11 via optional features and PowerShell.
Starting with Windows 10 October 2018 Update, RSAT is included as a set of “Features on Demand” right from Windows 10. You don’t have to manually download and install an RSAT package from Microsoft Download Center. Instead, just go to “Manage optional features” in Settings and click “Add a feature” to see the list of available RSAT tools. Select and install the specific RSAT tools you need.
In this article, we will show you how to install RSAT on Windows 11 through optional features and via PowerShell.

Installing RSAT tools on Windows 11 Home
Before you plan to install RSAT on Windows 11, ensure you read the below points.

Step 2: To add an optional feature, select View Features.

Step 3: On the Add an optional feature window, type “RSAT” and click Search. From the list of features, select the RSAT tools and features that you want to install and click Next.

Step 4: The features that you’ve selected for installation can be seen on this screen. To confirm the installation, select Install.

Step 5: The selected RSAT tools and features are now downloaded and installed on the Windows 11 PC.

What are RSAT tools?

First, we’ll use PowerShell to identify which RSAT features are currently installed. Here’s the script.

Install a specific RSAT tool by name

Here is a list of all the RSAT features with their proper PowerShell names.
For example, to install Remote Desktop Service Tools, run this command:

How to install all RSAT features with one PowerShell command
If you don’t have the patience to install RSAT features one at a time, I don’t blame you. Instead, we can use this script to install all the available RSAT features in one go.
If you have the Optional features window open after running the command, you can monitor each feature as it’s installed.

How to install RSAT on computers with older versions of Windows
To install these RSAT packages, download the appropriate version for your OS, run the installer, and that’s it. All features are enabled by default.

Install RSAT using PowerShell
Note that it is possible to install the RSAT features using PowerShell rather than the below-referenced GUI-based installation method. The correct PowerShell command for this is:
Install-WindowsFeature RSAT-AD-PowerShell, RSAT-ADCS-Mgmt
To check and see if the RSAT features have been installed, use Get-WindowsFeature referencing the same features like so:

Install RSAT in the Roles and Features Wizard
In this guide, I’ll show you how to install the RSAT tools on Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server. I’ll also show you how to install RSAT using PowerShell.
Note: Starting with Windows 10 October 2018 Update, the RSAT tools no longer need to be downloaded. They are now included with the Windows build and just need to be installed. RSAT tools are only supported on Windows Pro and Enterprise versions of Windows 10 and 11.
1. Open Apps & features and click on “Optional features”

2. Click on Add a feature.
3. Type rsat and then select the RSAT tools you want to install.
In this example, I’ll install the Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS tools.

4. Click install to start the installation.
When the installation is complete the status will say installed.


On Windows 11 go to settings and then Apps.
Click on Optional Features.

Click on the View Features button.

Type in rsat and select the tools you want to install.
In this example, I’ll select the Active Directory Domain Services tool.


Install RSAT on Windows Server
These steps work for Server 2016, 2019, and 2022.
1. Open the Server Manager and click on Add roles and features

Select “Role-based or featured-based installation” and click next
Select your server and click next.
For server roles click Next. (We are not adding any server roles).
Select the tools you want to install and click next.

Confirm the selections and click install.

Using PowerShell to Install RSAT
You can install individual RSAT tools or all of them using Powershell.
Example 1.Install all RSAT tools run the below command.

In this example, I’ll install the Active Directory Domain Servers tools using the command below.
Use the names below to install other RSAT tools via PowerShell.
